Camera Strap Cover Tutorials

February 16, 2010 By: Jessica Category: Just For Fun 4 Comments →

I big pink puffy heart my camera strap cover. It makes my strap so much more comfortable, helps me easily distinguish my camera from my husband’s and helps me not to be such a walking billboard for Nikon.

You can possibly tell how much I love it by how dirty it is. I think it’s time for a new one!

Many times since I made my strap cover I have wanted to put together a MomShots tutorial for anyone who may be interested in making their own. I still haven’t done that. I’m a pretty big procrastinator sometimes. Have you noticed?

So in the meantime, I thought I’d post some links to camera strap cover tutorials that I found online.

  • Strap cover #1, similar to the ones I make. Made by the creative Tidy Mom.
  • Strap Cover #2. Made by Design Sponge. I really like the tight fit of this cover. I’m thinking about trying my hand at one of these.
  • Strap Cover #3. This patchwork cutie is great. I love the idea! This is on the Fabric Family Fun blog.
  • Strap Cover #4. Lil Blue Boo made this adorable strap cover using leftover pieces of ribbon. I am really impressed. It’s a super fun way to use up pieces of ribbon you might have laying around.
  • Strap Cover #5. A strap cover with a pocket is on my list of must make items. I don’t always have a pocket in my clothes to put my lens cap so this is a perfect alternative. This great design is made by Simply Modern Mom.
  • Strap Cover #6. A great basic strap tutorial found at Made By Petchy.
  • Strap Cover #7. Adorable strap cover that is a great way to use left over scraps of fabric you may have laying around. This was made by Make It and Love It.
  • Strap Cover #8. If you don’t want to design your own pattern, The Sweetest Patterns on Etsy offers a downloadable PDF that you can purchase for only $4.50.
  • Well that’s a pretty good list of sites that can get you started and on your way quickly. If you make a camera strap cover, I am sure you will love it as much as I love mine! If you don’t want to make one and would like to purchase one already made there are some adorable ones available on Etsy at really great prices.

I’m kind of inspired and thinking that I need to keep my eyes peeled for some cute fabric this week and make a new one. Mine is starting to look a bit dingy. But really, do I need an excuse???

Well, first let me say Happy Mother’s Day! It’s a beautiful day here in Utah with a clear blue sky and sweet chirping birds. I even got to sleep in a little bit. Yay! I love days like this. My husband is upstairs with my boys making brunch right now and I am looking at the cute little bouquet with three gerber daisies my boys so cheerfully brought me a few minutes ago.

So without ado let’s get on with the winning!!! Are you as excited as I am to know who won? I wish I could give one to each of you. I really do. I love camera strap covers. I really like the one I made (and one day will put up a tutorial for anyone who wants to make one the way I made mine). I love the comfort and visual versatility that camera strap covers offer. I also really love the ones that Jessie has at her Etsy site. She has some beautiful fabrics and how can you go wrong with a lens cap pocket?!? That feature is brilliant!!!

    Now to the winning!

    Drum roll please….
While the drum is rolling you can hear the announcer in a small fast voice saying, “Winner is randomly chosen through the use of Random.org.”

The winner of the camera strap cover with the ever so soft minky fabric upgrade is…

    #67

The winner of the much coveted camera strap cover with the lens cap pocket is…

    Decoration for my camera…

    Camera Strap Cover

well that and it makes my neck strap a little more comfortable.  I saw these and decided that I just had to have one.  While I LOVE supporting small businesses and entrepreneurial ventures I couldn’t let a fun little project like this pass through my life.  I am a sucker for easy and quick projects (that and I got the stuff to make two for $3).  So I made one.

I found a few sites that sell new camera straps.  I wrote about it a while back.  I think fun camera straps and lens cozies are just too cute.  I love them.  I want an arsenal of camera straps so that I can change them with my mood.  Wouldn’t that be fun?

Anyway, instead of ripping apart my current camera strap, I made a sleeve.  I like that it is changeable so that when it gets gross, I can just pop it in the wash or just make a new one.  I actually bought fabric to make a second sleeve but stopped at just one.  I’ll save the fabric for later and make it another day.

One of the cool things about this is that you use fusable fleece to pad both sides of the strap so it adds a little bit more comfort around your neck.  If you’re like me, I end up wearing my camera for a looonnnnggg time while you are trying to get the perfect Momshot.

If you end up making one, be sure to post a photo of it on Flickr so we can all share in your coolness!
