Black and White
Lately, I have been messing around in Photoshop, mostly converting some of my momshots to black and white. The reason? because I have taken alot of random momshots that have a loss of color coordination, due to giving up and letting my kid dress herself. The result, to many colors in the photo that are not pleasing to my eye! I noticed when changed to black and white, I just see pattern and different values of the same color (Black & White is color without hue). It seems to eliminate the non-important information and keep the essential. I have also noticed that the momshots that look good in black and white must have good lighting to begin with, because the lighting in black and white, clearly manifests itself.

I love this post! I have so many photos that have crazy colors and just need some help in general. I will have to start experimenting with black and white. What a great idea!!!

Very, very nice! I often see pictures that just lend themselves nicely to b&w conversion. People are usually always a good choice.

A suggestion that I will make, is that once you have them converted to B&W tune down the bright glaring whites (levels work great for evening out and enhancing B&W photos)… Also, I would suggest (before converting to B&W) duplicate your original (ctrl+j) then convert that top layer to B&W and then lower the layer opacity just enough to allow some color through, this will make the colors “match” a bit more and give it a nice classic color tint. I guess this should be a tutorial… HUH?
The main point I guess I am trying to make is that you need to make sure you have a definite focal point and subtleties that lead your viewer through your photos i.e. spot color, high contrast vs. low contrast… etc.
Sorry this was long, got carried away in the ideas
